PICO is a compact system designed for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT). It promotes faster healing by removing exudate and infectious materials from the wound.
PICO is particularly convenient because it’s portable and easy to apply, allowing patients to use it comfortably.
It can be used for various wounds, including acute, chronic, surgical incisions and traumatic wounds, partial-thickness burns, diabetic or pressure ulcers. By applying negative pressure, PICO gently reduces the wound size, improves blood flow, and stimulates new tissue growth.
PICO has multiple mechanisms of action which helps to promote faster wound healing
It helps to promote adequate perfusion to the wound, which boosts the immune system's response.
It improves the efficiency of lymphatic vessels, helping to reduce oedema.
It increases blood flow and may help promote angiogenesis
It Stimulates granulation tissue formation
In short, PICO may promote the efficiency of lymphatic vessels, perfusion, blood flow, angiogenesis, and granulation tissue formation. At the same time, it reduces oedema, hematoma, and seroma
It protects the wound from contamination, provides a moist environment, and helps to keep the wound and surrounding area clean.
Only PICO has a proprietary AIRLOCK Technology, with these key features:
- The silicone adhesive layer reduces pain during removal.
- AIRLOCK Technology distributes pressure evenly across the whole wound bed and surrounding area.
- Super absorbent core locks away exudate from the wound. It doesn’t backflow at all.
- Top film layer has a high moisture vapour transmission rate and protects the wounds from external contamination
3. Super absorbent core locks exudate away from the wound.5 Once bacteria is within the dressing, over 99% is locked within the dressing and away from the wound.
4. Up to 80% of the exudate evaporates, while 20% is absorbed by the dressing.
-80mmHg
PICO◊ sNPWT gives a steady negative pressure of -80mmHg to help treat wounds. Clinical guidelines suggest using negative pressure levels between -50 to -150mmHg for wound care. The exact pressure level depends on how much fluid the wound produces, the type of wound, and any pain the patient feels.
PICO sNPWT keeps the pressure at -80mmHg, which is enough for most wounds that have low to moderate fluid.

dehisced wounds. Partial-thickness burns, Ulcers, Flaps or grafts,
1. Micro-deformation
When negative pressure is applied, the tissue pushes into the small pores of the wound filler, which stimulates cells to grow and form new tissue. This happens whether you use foam or gauze
2. Macro-deformation
When NPWT (Negative Pressure Wound Therapy) is applied, the wound immediately gets smaller. This shrinking of the wound seems to stay even after the therapy stops. As the wound contracts, it also stretches the surrounding tissue, which helps improve blood flow.
– PICO dressings should be changed in line with standard wound management guidelines,
typically every 3-4 days
– At the Healthcare Professional’s discretion and where exudate levels are low a PICO dressing
may be left in place for up to 7 days
– More frequent dressing changes may be required depending on the level of exudate, condition
of the dressing or other patient considerations e.g. when treating an infected wound
– If PICO 7 system is being used with NPWT wound filler, the filler and the dressing should be changed
2-3 times per week
Exudate and bacteria are retained in the dressing and away from the wound bed51
– Up to 7 days wear time depending on exudate level12-13
– Conformable and non bulky to help improve patient freedom of movement following surgery9,11,32,52-54
– Dressing can be disconnected from the pump to enable showering
– Dressing is waterproof55
